Our Story: Turning Frustration into Action

The idea for You Spot Homes was born out of frustration—and a deep belief that things could be done differently.

As property professionals and community members, we kept seeing the same thing across towns and cities all over the UK: empty, boarded up, and derelict homes just sitting there, year after year. Perfectly good properties falling apart while families struggled to find affordable housing.

We started digging into the numbers—and what we found was shocking.

There are currently over 250,000 long-term vacant homes in the UK. These are properties that have stood empty for more than six months, often deteriorating, attracting anti-social behaviour, and becoming eyesores in otherwise vibrant neighbourhoods.

Meanwhile, thousands of people are on social housing waiting lists, living in temporary accommodation, or unable to afford rising rents.

It didn’t make sense.

Why were so many homes being wasted, while the housing crisis continued to worsen?

We knew that many of these properties were hard to find, often tucked away in local streets, missed by developers and councils alike. But the people who walk those streets every day—residents, commuters, posties, dog walkers—they see everything. What if we could empower everyday people to be part of the solution?

That’s when You Spot Homes was created.

We built a simple platform that lets anyone report an empty or derelict home in their local area. In return, we offer a meaningful reward—because spotting these hidden opportunities has real value. From a £30 voucher for a qualified lead to 1% of the purchase price if we buy it, we’re creating a way for people to earn extra income while helping fix a broken part of the system.

But more than that, we’re building something bigger: a nationwide network of everyday spotters helping to bring homes back into use, one property at a time.

This is about making housing work for people again.

This is about community-powered change.

This is You Spot Homes.

Mission: It's More than Just Money

We're driven by three core pillars that guide everything we do

Empower Everyday People

We empower everyday people to spot value where others overlook it—vacant homes hiding in plain sight. With just a phone and local knowledge, anyone can earn while making a real difference in their own neighbourhoods. No experience needed.

Unlock Hidden Housing

Our mission is to uncover and revitalise the UK’s thousands of long-term empty properties. By turning neglected homes into opportunities, we help ease housing pressures, reduce waste, and breathe life back into forgotten streets—one property at a time.

Rebuild Communities Together

We believe housing is about more than bricks—it’s about people and place. By working with communities, not just developers, we’re creating a grassroots movement to regenerate homes, support local economies, and restore pride where it’s been lost.

Values: Stick to your Principles

Our core values are the foundation of everything we do

Transparency

We believe honesty and openness build trust. At You Spot Homes, we commit to clear communication and full disclosure throughout every step—whether it’s how leads are evaluated, rewards are calculated, or properties are purchased. Transparency means you always know where you stand, how your contribution makes an impact, and that there are no hidden agendas. It’s the foundation of a fair, trustworthy, and lasting partnership with our community.

Integrity

Honesty and respect are the cornerstones of our work. We commit to handling every lead and interaction with the utmost care and fairness. Our spotters can trust that their efforts are valued and rewarded openly. Integrity also means being accountable—to our users, partners, and the communities we serve—and always acting in their best interests.

Sustainability

We’re dedicated to promoting sustainable housing solutions that benefit people and the planet. Revitalising existing homes reduces waste, limits urban sprawl, and conserves resources. Our approach supports environmentally responsible regeneration that creates healthier, more resilient communities for the long term, balancing economic growth with social and environmental stewardship.
